Fiber. Fruits, vegetables, and grain products are high in fiber, which lower bad cholesterol levels, (otherwise known as LDL, or low-density lipoprotein). In addition, fiber also cleans your digestive tract and helps you in weight loss as it can make you feel “full” in no time.

Fish. The ocean is rich with those big, cold-water fish like mackerel, tuna, salmon, and herring. These fish contain large amounts of the omega fatty acids, particularly the Omega-3 fatty acid. This substance prevents your blood from becoming too sticky and form clots and blockages in the arteries. It also lowers triglyceride levels and bad cholesterol, helping your heart and circulatory system in the long run.

Flavonoids. These are antioxidants that can help your body fight rogue molecular particles, called free radicals. Free radicals change the basic atomic structure of your tissues and consequently cause diseases, mutations, and cancer. Having a lot of flavonoids in your diet assures you that drastic drop in cancer probabilities, and prevents the build-up of plaques in the arterial walls.
